Why we spray cabinets instead of brushing them

A brush leaves strokes. On a wall you never notice them. On a cabinet door at eye level, in kitchen light, you catch every one. Spraying lays the enamel down in a thin, even film that flows out flat, the way a real factory finish looks. That is what people mean when they say a refinished kitchen looks new instead of painted.

Smooth also lasts longer. A sprayed film has no brush ridges for grease to catch in, so it wipes clean instead of staining, and it takes the daily open-and-slam of a working kitchen better than a brushed coat. That shows first at the door edges and around the pulls.

Arizona adds a reason to slow down at the end. Dry desert air and hard-running AC can set the surface of a coating before it cures underneath, so a cabinet enamel needs real time to harden through. The timeline

How long your kitchen is out of commission

Here is the part people want answered first: your kitchen keeps working through most of the job. The boxes stay bolted to the wall, so your counters, sink, and appliances are yours the whole time. What comes off is the doors and drawer fronts, off for several days while they are prepped, sprayed, and cured hard before we rehang them.

  1. Walk-through and prep

    We label and remove the doors and drawer fronts, mask off the kitchen, then degrease, sand, and prime every surface. This is the day that decides how well the finish lasts.

  2. Prime and spray

    Boxes and face frames get finished in place. The doors and drawers get sprayed off the kitchen, in a controlled space, so the coat lands even and dust-free.

  3. Cure

    The enamel needs time to harden. We give it that time instead of rushing soft doors back onto a working kitchen, because early is exactly how a finish gets marked up.

  4. Rehang and walk

    Doors and drawers go back on, hardware is set, everything is adjusted to close clean, and we walk the finished kitchen with you before we pack up.

The number of days tracks your door and drawer count, and it is in the written estimate before we start. You lose the cabinet doors for a few days. You do not lose the kitchen.

A properly prepped and sprayed cabinet finish holds up for years of daily kitchen use. The life is in the prep, not just the paint: degreasing, sanding, and a bonding primer keep the enamel from chipping or peeling at the edges. We leave a labeled touch-up can behind, and your warranty term is in writing.

Less than you would think, because the boxes never leave the wall. Your counters, sink, and appliances stay in service the whole time. Only the doors and drawer fronts come off, for several days, while they are sprayed and cured. The exact number of days tracks your door and drawer count, and it is in your written estimate.

We spray a cabinet-grade enamel built for daily use, not wall paint. For sheen, satin gives a softer, low-glare look and semi-gloss wipes down a little easier with more shine. Tell us the look you want and we will show you where each one lands before we spray.

Yes, and it is not close. Refinishing is finish and labor. Replacement is new boxes, new doors, counters pulled and reset, the install, and days without a kitchen. If your boxes and layout are sound, refinishing gives you the new look for a fraction of the cost. If the boxes are failing, we will tell you straight that replacement is the better call.

Your call. If you like your handles and pulls, we reuse them. If you want a new look, swapping hardware is one of the cheapest ways to change the feel of the kitchen, and we set it while the doors are off. A different hole pattern just means we fill and finish the old holes.
